Took the pontoon out on Haller for the third time this year on Saturday. I got on the water around 7:30 am. I tried a Yo-Zuri crystal minnow, a "stocker trout" colored swimbait, a jig, a tube, a shakey head, and a Carolina rig - and nothing. I tied on a watermelon senko (rigged wightless) and started skipping it under docks, and got two in 90 minutes. I got it under the dock, let it sink for a good 15 seconds, and brought it back sloooow. Both hit right as it crossed from shadow into light. They were both pretty little - somewhere around 12-14 inches. Let em go.

I did have two follows on a yellow / green flake tube, but both shied away once they got a good look at it.

It was great to catch some fish, but I've got to say the coolest part of the day happened as I was re-tying. The wind had picked up a little bit, and I'd drifted in towards the bank. I finished my knot and glanced over at the dock I was suddenly right next to. The lighting happened to be perfect, and with my polarized glasses I got a clear look all the way to the bottom. There were three or four little guys suspended, all gathered around a BIG FISH. If the little ones were the size of the ones I got, this big gal had to be 24 inches at least. Hard to say, but it was definitely substantially larger. I got so excited that I panicked, and tried to skip the tube I had tied on under the dock from two feet away. Of course I whipped it over the dock and around the other size, snagged up, and had to work my way around by hand to get free. Looked again and they were gone...

Third time was the charm - I got skunked my first two times out. The bite is finally starting to pick up. I gave the day a "two" based on the rating system, but for me it was a five.

If I can get the pics off my phone I'll add them later.

happy Monday y'all - remember - the weekend is just five short days away.

Tight lines.

Thanks for the Haller report. Haller and Bitter are my neighborhood lakes. Last year a friend and I pulled a couple of nice fish around 4lbs out of there. I'll hit it up this week.
