After getting my morning Steelie on the Cow with the crew, I decided to make my way to some unfamiliar ground at Riffe. I am horrible with directions so it took me awhile to find the spot a good friend told me to fish. He had reported of catching numerous Smallies from shore over the past couple weeks and Coho as well. I just had to get there.
I knew I was lost when my reliable "Tom Tom" kept telling me over and over to "Turn around when possible" I told her to shut her piehole and unplugged it. I decided to find a local gas station and ask for directions. Luckily an old timer pointed me in the direction I needed to be.
I found a decent shore access and started tossing out a 3 inch pearl grub. The action was very slow. It was cold and windy. But I still had visions of a monster Bronze at the end of my line. I fished for about an hour and nothing. Finally, something slammed my grub and put a nice bend in my rod. After a brief battle, a fat looking LMB fell in defeat. Took a quick pic and off she went. I talked to a knowledgeable father/son who of course told me, "Ya should have been here last week when the water was lower." Ack... He did tell me the water level will be almost full by next weekend so the spot I was fishing won't even be fishable. He did tell me his son caught a 22 inch Smallie so I have hopes to fish here next year or at least when the water goes back down.
Until next time..
