Fished Lake Stevens this morning. I’m not sure what I was thinkin but hadn’t been out in several weeks so I felt the need to be on the water. It rained, hard at times and the mounting screw on my Min Kota trolling motor finally stripped after 7 years of hard use. So we used my 75 hp Honda and went in and out of gear trying to keep speeds down and catch a few fish. Yea, not so much! Before the trolling motor mount failed completely which was basically about 20 minutes in to the trip I had one to the boat that spit the hook and a second that felt big pulling hard before wrapping itself around the down rigger cable and breaking off. So it was a frustrating morning on the lake to say the least. We did see others catching fish so I believe the bite was fairly active despite my issues with the trolling motor. One die hard skier mad a few passes in the pouring rain but went in after maybe 30 minutes. We quit at 8:45 am and that was it. 1 small trout boated then released unharmed in 2.75 hours.
I will return to give this a try again once I get my electric motor mount replaced. Over the past year or so I have searched the web for Minn Kota replacement parts but haven’t been able to find a new mount for it. I hate to think I may have to buy a new motor all together. I rated my trip a 2 but I believe the bite was better for others who were trolling slow in the right area using the right set up. BTW lots of fish on the finder. They were all in the area of 40 to 55 feet. We trolled red and or red/green wedding rings behind 000 chrome flashers, hooks tipped with white corn.
