6/10/2010 8:59:00 PMI grew up fishing in Illinois, Iowa and in Minnesota, the fishing here in Wa state is a little different, for one thing the water is typically cooler but for the most part bass are bass and lures that you used on your home waters will probably work here as well.
Some guys will give you grief for keeping any bass but the rules state as follows:
"No min. size. Only BASS less than 12" may be retained, except 1 over 17" may be retained. Daily limit 5.
Bass may be caught, retained, and released alive from a livewell until a daily limit is in possession."

6/10/2010 10:55:00 PMi know a lot of people who eat bass. the laws and limits are there for a reason so none of you should be complaining or questioning a person about taking home fish.

6/11/2010 10:09:00 AMYes actually believe it or not bass are actually good and taste better than perch, bluegill etc. They are a very clean meat fish. Yes im from Illinois as well and fishing there is like heaven. My goal was not to keep the fish i was about to release them. when i was stopped by a man with his wife and kids expressing interest in keeping them for food. So then i took the pics and gave them away. Actually im pretty lazy now since leaving illinois so honestly in 5 years i haven't taken home a fish yet. Always catch and release or give them to some kid etc. I fish for the pure relaxation and excitement of the fight. But still would like to catch more in this weather dreadful state :)

6/11/2010 10:14:00 AMon another note does anyone know where you can actually catch channel cats. not those nasty lil bullheads but real channel cats. Thats a fight im looking to have. And remember when your out there its better to give than recieve. you never know if your provided meal is someone's only meal of the day. WWJD

6/11/2010 11:23:00 AMNothing wrong with keeping a couple small (under 12 inch) largies or handing them off to someone that wanted them. Although if you were planning to catch and release them I would recommend in the future not keeping them on a ring-eye stringer like that, they struggle to breathe on those things. Maybe just C&R them as they're caught. They don't struggle as bad as trout, but still pretty uncomfortable for them. Thanks for the report! Hopefully when it warms up a bit more, the fishing in this state will be more successful for us all.
PS- I think perch taste better than bass ;-) Batter fried perch fillets with french fries and tartar sauce with a dill pickle juice base yum!

6/11/2010 4:11:00 PMWell, for those of you questioning why I asked, it is not because I do not know the game laws, nor do I disregard the rules on this web site, which are, hammering a guy for not even breaking the law being a no-no.
I never intended to hammer on the guy for killing a couple of bass. If taken like so, I apologize. I have never killed a bass, but do intend to, later in the year, and yes, only a couple of little guys like these pictured. I was only asking because I did not get the full story (now I have it) and was curious why somebody would kill anything that they were not going to eat. That is all. I have seen people and their greed take like 50 trout out of a small lake, try to give them away, no takers, so they tossed them out in the brush, so, I was a little concerned.
Eat all the bass that you want, I heard it is scrumptious.

6/14/2010 2:37:00 PMYou were planning on catching and releasing fish? The first fish should have never made it on a rope stringer in the first place. Your story doesn't add up. Catch photo and release, or keep the fish, no giving away !! At least they weren't PIGS like in the Wilderness report....
