Hit the water at about 4:30 pm. Variable wind, from breezy to windy. Cool with scattered showers and a few sun breaks. Fished northeast first, but wind picked up and made it difficult, so we headed to a protected spot on the west side and fished there until the wind died down a bit. So far we have boated alot of rock bass, and a couple of smallies. We head to the north end next, and fished until we got blown out again, then headed to another spot on ;the west side. with three more smallies and a bunch more rock bass c & r'd. In our last spot of the day,we got into some decent fish. The pics are the two best for the evening, dont have a scale, so I dont know the weights. The 7 oclock hour still seems to be producing the big fish. All fish came on Berkley Gulp Alive minnows on a drop shot. Big ones were under docks in 4-6 ft of water.

100% of the time that I drop shot American with gulp minnows I catch trout. Never a bass, but many trout, which is cool, because they hit hard, not so cool because the inhale the minnow and more times than not results in me having to kill the fish. Hmm, maybe I was fishing too deep?????

Hey I have never fished American Lake. Looks like part of the lake has shore line that is military base. Any part of the lake that you cant be on?

All of the water is open on American, but you dont want to go wandering ashore where the big signs say "Government property KEEP OUT"
I wouldn't say that American never fails me, I had quite the drought this winter. But it's definitely a fun fishery right now. The two fish in the pics actually came from a spot we've never fished before. We tried it out to get out of the wind, and it turned out to be a really great area.
