My fishing trips have been far and few between this year, mostly as a result of Obama's economy yet the trips have been well worth it for me and my good friend Adam Barnett. Ad and I took my 10" flat bottom out for an evening fishing the willows off of the the Pothole's res up at the Northern access at the Job Corps Dike recently. I had some reservations about the possibility of being successful with so many young perch and baby bass in the shallows. But Ad's first cast with a Baby bass Pop R' near a beaver hut yielded a nice 2 lb largemouth and the game was on! We scooted around the myriad of willow stands and toulee pockets, tossing Baby Bass 5" Senkos rigged weedless and Ad stuck with his Pop R'. The interesting thing was that the Bass really responded to a 4" Bass pro Smoke colored double tail grub that I flipped into the pocket when ever Adam missed a fish on his top water. We saw a number of non biting bass up shallow that I figured were possibly late spawners...The best spot that we found was a submerged root mass near a slow moving current, with its proximity to a shallow sand dune point, really concentrated the most aggressive fish. The bass pushed schools of minnows up shallow on that bar and we were rewarded wtih some fast and furious action till sundown. 16 fish to 3 1/2 lbs. What an evening! The Jigmiester
