6/22/2010 4:01:00 PMIt's only a measuring board that is obviously laying on the deck of the boat. We all should have a measuring board in our boats. So no problem at all. Great fish. Just because the formula says 4.9 lbs, doesn't mean the fish isn't a full 5 pounds, more to a fishes density, and so weight, than just measurements. I check my digital scale a couple times a year, it was off .2 lbs this past March so I bought a new one. It showed .2 pounds less than the test weights acualy were. So Dustin7's fish was 3.7 pounds, not 3.5 pounds.

6/22/2010 7:33:00 PMwhats up with those sores on their gill plates i caught one like that out of tanwax a couple of days ago and it had that same sore on its gill plate is that from them making their beds or what?

6/22/2010 10:50:00 PMThe gill plate sores are caused by the spawn. The male bass nudges the female with its mouth trying to direct the female to its nest. The female doesn't usually lay all her eggs on one nest as to distribute her eggs with other nests so as the gene pool is not of one male and female. She gets the gauntlet of males that come out from their nest site trying to show her where to go even though she will not deposit her eggs on every nest. The bottom of the fins that look worn and red are also caused by the spawn during the egg laying process.
