Lowered a downrigger weight to the depths of Lake Chelan around 0730 in the Mack Bar area. I had on the silver Clatter Tad that was producing for me last trip. On the Second rod I rigged the Ace Hi Fly Green Spatter back. To these added a strip of Pike minnow. Worked across the bar, then along the bar, and both sides. I got first hit (clatter tad) after about 20 minutes of trolling. It was a 2 3/4 pounder. Another hit that I missed in about 10 mins later, again on the clatter tad, and no takers on the other rod. After catching another small one, and getting a couple more hits on the Clatter Tad, I brought up the Ace Hi Fly to see if it was fouled or something. It looked fine and was working in the water, so I changed out to a blue and silverbelly FlatFish with pikeminnow and "Smelly Jelly-Shrimp:. Ran this down and continued trolling. Didn't get any hits for a few passes, and needed to get back down lake so I crossed over and down to the Minniapolis Beach area. The rod with the flat fish got taken down and snapped off the rigger clip. I grabbed the rod and took up the slack expecting to feel the throb of a head shake, only to be dissappointed. Oh Well, I flip the switch and start the weight on its way up, and start to crank in the lure to check it out before hooking it up again. After taking in about a quarter of the line, The line Stops, The rod bends down toward the water, and The clutch is slipping. I try for a hook set, but it's mostly hang on. I did get a couple of sets in, and was able to get line back, but on the next run the hooks came out. WOW, talk about excited. What ever it was, it hit like a train. Someday I'm going to land one of the bigger ones, just gotta keep the lures in the water. I ended up boating 4 macks with the largest being 4# 14oz and the others in the 2 pound + range. I saw marks I thought were silvers, and dropped a wedding ring with flash lites down, and caught a 5-6 inch silver. When I would be reeling in the lures after being knocked off the down rigger clip, there would be a silver or two chase it in. They were all 6 inches or less, I probably won't be chasing the silvers any more this year, but am sure going to try for more of the lakers. These lil guys are destined for the smoker. The last couple of Macks I caught Cindy cooked up on the George Foreman after brushing with olive oil and sprinkling with lemon pepper. We felt they tasted better than the ones I did on the grill, but by all means a good meal. The Public boat launch was getting pretty busy with tourist boaters when I came down around 12-1230. Took awhile to get out, but it was cheap enertainment LOL. Stay safe and remember to stay hydrated out there with the warmer temps.

Lookin' good! Glad to see you are succeeding. If you'd let Cindy come along on a Laker trip you 'll probably get to see a big one in the boat. LOL Did I really say that? Keep it up!

That's probably true afk, but Cindy isn't into the trolling routine. Besides, I usually go out on the lake on the days she has to work. My bad or what. I may have to talk her into it someday so we can boat some "decent" fish. LOL

I don't see anything wrong with her earning the gas money while you're burning it. LOL Besides, you would also have to let her use one of the down riggers & you wouldn't get near as a good of a workout. ( I know that you have electrics ). Keep it up your going to find a nice big chinook or Laker yet.

Howdy Lookinforfish, I've not had much luck fishing from shore myself, and if I was going to be in the area without a boat and wanted to catch some fish, I'd try for a half day trip with one of the guides. Do a site serch on "Lake Chelan", and read others reports on the lake. There should be info on shore fishing from some other members available. Good luck
