Had just enough time after finishing a baseball game on Bainbridge Island to hit Lake Washington for the evening bite and a Kidd Valley double bacon burger at Coulon. Having the kid with me, I decided to concentrate on the South tip of Mercer Island so the burger run wouldn’t take too long. We fished for about an hour and landed 2 fish 70' down in about 100’ of water. We then headed to Coulon to pick up the burgers before heading back out to Mercer around 8:15. We picked up 2 more fish between 8:30 and 9:15, this time at 35' down. The hot lure was a small Apex behind a small Abe and Al flasher, trolled at a brisk pace. I’m guessing we could have had a few more, but the amount of vegetation in the water where we were fishing made it difficult to get the gear down with out picking some of it up. Check you gear often, especially if it is not getting bit. Surface temps were well up from the last time I was out, and were sitting around 67 degrees where we were fishing. The weather was just awesome, and we were treated to watching the sun go down and turn Mt. Rainier several different shades of pink and orange. The big fish was 20” long and weighed in at 2lbs 14oz on the X-tools digital scale. I also had the pleasure of I weighing a smallie at the Newport launch for a guy that went 6lbs 7oz! He didn’t have a scale with him and wanted to weigh it before setting it free. Lucky guy, his wife/girlfriend was with him and she was as jazzed as he was about it.
A note – If you are going to fish in the evening, be sure you have lights and check to see that they work before you go!
