Fremont side of the canal again, super fun. Kept trying different spots until I started getting bites. Caught on small and one big. Someone has suggested a bullet weight to get down to the bottom, but i kept dragging into weeds and i don't think the worm swam well at all. Back to just the hook and green worm with a slow retrive. I'm still losing 1/2 of them, i think they are biting just the tail sometimes. So much fun either way. In the end, i released both them, yes i put them on the stringer cause i was so excited to catch something and didn't want to say good bye just yet. Hardy fish, they both swam off right away at release. The big one almost broke my piece of crap southbend reel.

You thought maybe the fish were biting just the tail end of the worm?? Try wacky rigging your worm. (Hook through the center of the worm.) I prefer to use the black O-ring when wacky rigging. That way you never hook into the worm and damage it. I think wacky rigging makes for a good hook set. If you don't know what I mean, just Google wacky rig.

just fyi, those are smallmouths :) i'm glad the fish swam away alive and well but try not to put the bass on a stringer unless you plan on keeping them! :D

Good job at catching those fish. To better care for them in the future you an release them asap since you are used to catching quality fish now. Don't want to mess up there gills or anything ya know.
