A late start and a few hours to kill, so why not head to Lake Cavanaugh for a few hours of fishing? We arrived at the lake somewhere around 10:00 am and were second guessing the plan because the wind was blowing from many different directions. Being diehard fisher people the gear went down anyway. We were fishing our usual kokanee gear as follows; one off the down rigger at 28-38’, 2 lead-line rigs at 1 color and one flat-line at 30-35 pulls. We fished spin-n-glows, wedding ring, mini squid and mini squid with a smiley blade squid. All lures were tipped with power maggots. First fish was in the box 5 minutes after we started fishing. From that point on we never went more than a couple minutes without doing the kokanee shuffle. Numerous doubles and triples kept us hopping and made for a short fishing trip. Final count, limits of kokanee for 4 with 3 fish being almost a pound. The water was 60-63 degrees and the fish were scattered throughout the lake.

Very nice! I am taking my kids out tomorrow for the same sort of thing (Cavanaugh) You said a couple fish went almost a pound... how many inches was your biggest? The last couple times I've been there, the fish were closer to 10" less 12" ers.
I just came in from the garage putting a new seat on the boat. f.f. got sent to Alabama (Humminbird) today. lots of busy work.

We didn't measure them but even the smaller fish were faaaaaat ones. Quad, I should have thought of this earlier but I have a back-up 565 you could borrow until yours comes home from the hospital. Zack it was great seeing you guys out there and we are very excited for you two. Our 18 year old has asked a million questions.

Nice looks like some good sized ones in there. Looks like you all had alot of fun. I was talking to the wife about needing to get my tabs for the boat and before I knew it she had ordered them on line so now I have to wait to get out there again.

Pulls are generally the distance between your reel and the first guide on your rod or approximately 2’. Lead line is a trolling line with a fine lead core that has a braided material over coating, it sinks at a given rate depending on water temperature, turbidity, gear fished and trolling speed but generally the sink rate is 5’ for every 10 yards of lead line in the water. The braided over coating changes color every 10 yards so you know how much line is out by just noting the color of the line. The sink rate varies considerably depending on trolling speed. Our local trout and kokanee fishing is a slow troll fishery so when fishing lead line the sink rate may be as much at 10’per color.
