I spent about the last hour and a half of daylight out on Bitter lake tonight in my float tube.... July and August,, absolutely the best time each year now on this and Haller lake. I fished 5" senkos, very dark color. (sorry, but color blind) Caught my first fish, LMB on about the 3rd cast.
I finally quit only because I didn't have my headlamp with me and it became hard to get the fish seperated from the hook near dark. Boated 5 LMB between 12-15" , and 2 rock bass. One of which was fairly large for this lake, maybe 8". All the largies of course were released happily.
The rock bass are so abundant, and I have heard of people saying to try them.... so, yes, I fried a couple up. Easy now all you bass guys/gals,, I wouldn't lay a finger on a largie or smally, lol.

I can say that the bitter lake rock bass have very sharp and abundant bones. Soft white flesh that is pretty mushy for a pan fried fish. Flavor was OK, but nothing special. You're not missing anything. Forgot the camera. No other anglers on the water, 3-4 shorebound anglers after dark.
