Fished from 700am to 1130ish and caught several perch and rockbass, keeping enough perch for a really nice meal this weekend. It was a bit slower than usual with a decent wind as the likely culprit. That is, I was in an 8 ft. inflatable pontoon boat finding it difficult to stay exactly where I wanted to stay.

In the parking lot, I spoke to and appreciated two really good guys who had done well on Kokanee, and I would donate major organs for another short visit. I'm recently here from the Great Lakes and have never Kokanee fished, but am seriously thinking of a way to put a small downrigger on a non-motorized inflatable pontoon boat to see if I might have any success with these beauties!

It would be amazing to enjoy the perch and a manual troll around American Lake in the same outing. Is it "doable", or would one's arms fall off? Also, I realize that this is for reports only, so I will end these questions now and definitely report back with my next attempt at big fun in your amazingly great state!

I have heard of people trolling on kayaks. I don't see why it wouldn't work on a pontoon.

You know what, Don't Worry about the cost. The boats already on the lake, and I would probably be going alone anyway... If you could bring some Gulp Maggots, and a little luck that would be enough.

Hey Bob R...
For the first time in my life, I purchased a synthetic or "manufactured" bait in Berkeley's (sp?) Gulp Natural Colored Maggots. This comes after a lifetime of picking crawlers after a rain, dropping minnow traps, throwing cast nets, jigging pilchards, catching pinfish, and more recently, pumping sandshrimp. A nice person at the boat ramp suggested them, and I have found that two on a wedding ring's hook trolled at a snail's pace is lethal. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and today had the Kokanee portion of the paddle wrapped up by 7:00 a.m.ish, and I feel like a little school kid with as fun as it is.
I smurk a bit each time I bait up, and then I chuckle, and then I accept it and thank the guy who shared their "gulp" name!
