After a couple week break we were able to get back on the water today. We launched at the Kulshan ramp by the dam around 11:00-11:30 this morning (the boat was clean and launching at Kulshan meant less dirt roads). After a short run up to Noisy Creek it was gear down. About 15 minutes later one rod goes off but we came up empty handed. 5 minutes later it is fish on and ½ way thru the fight a second rod goes off but again it comes unbuttoned. All is good, first fish is in the kill bag and we start a slow pick on the days catch. Although we did have a few dry spells fishing was consistent and we were able to get our limit of 4 fish by about 3:30.
We were pulling 0 chrome or 0 fish scale dodgers followed by a single red 3/0 hook with pink smiley blade. We also pulled a pink mini squid setup and a single red 3/0 hook but the pink smiley blade was the go to rig for the day. We fished at 45-60 feet and were trolling at .8-1.9 mph. We are not sure how the other 20 or 30 boats did but while having an early dinner at the Cascade Drive-in in Concrete we over heard another family say they got a couple fish.
The fish are starting to change color. Although our fish were still in very good shape they did show signs of their spawning maturity. The male hook nose was much more pronounced than a couple weeks ago and they were starting to show just a hint of red. The quality of the meat is still excellent.
