With the dropping temps, Cindy and I made a Sunday boat ride at Rufus Woods. The Air temp was in the upper 60s when we launched at the corps launch at Chief Joseph Dam, and the water temp at the dock was 70*. As we motored up river the temp decreased slightly, and when we checked the surface temp at the pens it was reading 65.6*. There was little to no current, and only two boats anchored below the lower most pens. We took a couple of hours and fished the shoreline right above the pens, down along side the pens, and the area below the pens. We used spinners, jigs (marabou & plastic), stick baits, and even some power bait. Cindy had one (3-5 pounds estimate) on a jig until it found a week spot in her line and I had two hits on a Super rooster tail in black, but no hook ups. We didn't see any fish caught and the few folks we spoke with hadn't gotten any bites. We traveled down river trying likely looking spots along the way, and finally found some yellow perch on the Douglas side across from the Pump #3 area. We kept 8 Yellow perch ranging from 7 1/2 inches to 10 inches. The perch fell to jigs in various colors and 1/80th and 1/16th oz size. Even though we didn't catch any trout, I gave the trip a 3 for the fish caught. It was good to get back on the water, and the weather was excellent. As far as the Triploid fishing goes, we will wait until the weather cools , and when the water temps start to fall, look forward to some great action. We've not heard of great numbers of the released trout (earlier this year) being caught, so We are hopeful for some nice fat fish this winter.
