I went up to Beaver Lake by Mount Vernon on Sat. Left home 7:30am and made to lake by 8:45am. I fished until 3pm. Got there and there was already 3 other boats on the lake. It was sunny and slight wind. Lake is pretty open and low spot by mountains so you tend to get some wind. This was my second time fishing this lake but first this year. I started out with top water rapala in perch color...got a roll by outside of pads right away...but must of scared him off. I landed one within first 5 minutes 8" bass. I tried buzz bait behind pads and in front but no hits. Lake has tons of lilly pads, water is muddy color of coffee with cream and lots of black weeds. Wind picked up so I got out deeper and tried Rat L Trap and about 4th cast to middle of no where. I got a 14" Bass. I love it when I catch fish where no one else likes to cast. I figured lake was shallow less then 10ft deep so worth a shot.
I ended up getting that 14" Bass(ties my largest this year) and 12" Bass that drove me into the weeds. He must of thought he was bigger then he was as I got him and pile of weeds when I got to the snag. Rest of bass were 8" or smaller. Yes, I carry a tape measurer and know how to use it.
I also landed 5 Crappie 7"-9" in one spot and 2 bass out of same hole. It was pretty windy one drawback of this lake no cover from wind. The water being muddy tends to make the fish very light colored.
Not bad day ended up 9 Bass, 5 Crappie and trolled rapala on way back to launch and hooked an 8" Trout he was dancing on top as I trolled.
