My daughter want to fish this lake again. Went we pulled up I could see lots of fish right on the surface, swirling and jumping. We tried a flat fish and only got some strikes but no hook ups so we switched to worm and bobber. We landed three trout had many more bites and stolen worms... (my hooks weren't ideal). All the fish we caught and could see swimming around just under the surface were covered in worms and looked gross. Not sure what can be done about that but I didn't want to keep them.

Anyone seen that behavior before? Lots of trout swimming around with there backs just about out of the water... seemed odd to me.

canoeingit, I've been fishing this lake regularly from shore, in face I was there yesterday (10/3). I generally just use bobber and worm and get quite a few fish, but they are all small. I also see a lot of trout on the surface like you are describing and many are wormy also. The few bigger ones I get seem to have very few or no worms on them. I don't know what causes the fish to have these but I have heard they are safe to eat (just gross to look at). I have in fact eaten a few myself. I just scrape away the worms on the outside during the cleaning process.

Hope this helps some and if you ever make it over to fish lake again let me know, I'd love to fish together.

Hey yooper.. I think maybe the ones that are really full of worms can't control their buoyancy anymore and that's why they are stuck at the surface. Just a theory... But man they really grossed me out... your braver than me by eating them ;) I made a pass at Fish lake before we headed to Walker. They water was much lower than I had ever seen it and I did not want to carry my canoe that far as my shoulders been bugging me.. but next time I head out the either one I'll give you a shout out.
