Today I felt like Odysseus from Homer's Odyssey. A friend of mine whom I will call Circe or his new indian name "he whom rarely gives good advice" gave me some advice to go fishing rather than sit around waiting for the phone to ring regarding a potential interview.

"Go fishing my friend.... it will take your mind off of the circumstance before you.... Stay close to north end of King County as somebody (either my dad or yours) may need your assistance on other matters (bad part is they did)"

Basically the day was a case of Scylla, Scylla, Scylla, and Charybdis... stuck between a rock another rock heck another rock and some blasted hard spot.

I started at the Edmonds pier but didn't really want to put the effort into chasing down Coho's. Actually I didn't want to go find a cash machine to get some cash so I could buy some herring and then have to set up my bobber etc. I was just toooo lazy today and tomorrow doesn't look much better.

I decided to go to Lake Ballinger after visiting the pier and then quickly fixing a problem at my dads. At first I wasn't going to go fishing only two problems existed and both were the same one. The two of the three individuals on the dock were catching fish. 1 trout and about 5 pearch between the 2 of them. I watch one of the individuals pull in 4 of the perch.

"OK that did it!" I thought. I got my rod and what little trout gear I'm still carrying with me on a regular basis. Got my worms and set off to do what the others on the dock were doing.

As luck would have it as soon as I got the worm on the hook and the line in the water the fish that had been so active earlier stopped biting. In the entire time I had one smalllllll hit but landed nothing. By the time the sun went down I had officially frozen my hands and face. I'll be back but who really knows why... that lake has not been my friend this year at all.

By the way the phone didn't ring at home either..... except my dad telling me he has long list of stuff he needs help with...

i live right across the street from ballinger and have fished there a few times. as odd as it may seem, i have had my best luck casting out far from the dock using a drop shot rig. i use about a 2 foot leader between the weight and the hook and just work it back towards the dock. as strange as it may seem, i've caught a couple rainbow trout this way as well as largemouth bass and some respectable sized perch between 10 - 12 inches. i'll sit in one spot and just keep a constant twitch going on for about 5 - 10 seconds, reel in about 5 cranks or so and repeat. everyone they gives me a weird look like why would you possibly cast out a drop shot? but then when i pull in fish they don't say anything :D

I often do the same thing but its using an egg weight instead. I think I either had the wrong rod, was at the lake at the wrong time, or had too much weight. What was funny was one guy who left and had earlier caught fish came back for one more.... I pull my line out for a couple minutes and bammmmmm he had another one... the lake hates me I swear :D
