I joined Slimy Slab for an outing on Lake Sammamish while the thremocline is still in place and keeping the fish concentrated in the 20' to 30' zone. It promised to be a 5 star day as I had my first fish on a few seconds after I had dropped my gear down to 22' on the rigger. The bite didn't stay that hot for us and we ended up bringing 7 fish to the boat for the day, all were relased to put in a bit more weight. None of the fish were very large or hit very hard, with the exception of a 2+ lb koke that I was beginning to show its spawning colors. It seemed that the take was very light even the fish that took a Hotshot registered as if a small fish was nibbling at some bait. I'm guessing that due to the light bite, we had a few takes that didn't stick and also lost a few before getting them to the boat, something that does not happen often to me. The weather was great, just a faint breeze and the the skies went from overcast in the morning to clear blue in the afternoon. Surface temps varied between 65 and 68 degrees with the cooler temps being on the east side of the lake. The goto lure of the day was a watermelon apex type lure behind an Abe and Al style flasher. We did hook a fish with a green Hotshot and one on a spinner hootchie combo, all fish hit between 20' to 30' down on the rigger. Sorry, no pics this time out as my point and shoot camera is officially dead.

Why does that not surprise me about the Abe and Apex combo!! I just rigged up my noodle rod today w/ that...hoping for next weekend! Yeah buddy, thanks G

It seams like the bite is better on sammamish then lake washington.what area were you fishing?

Wow thats strange G-MAN all fish my sons and I have boated from the lake have hit the lure and released all clips , even the smaller fish seem to put a good fight up . I have found the east side of the lake has produced best catch 80' of water and 25' down . Thanks for the report !

Damn, we fished both sides of the lake, didn't seem to make a whole lot of difference where as long as the water depth was at least 50'. I will say though that we found the area in front of Issaquah Creek is not as productive as the middle section of the lake.
Snake, I'm not sure what was up, I run braided line on my rod/reel combo and was using a 10lb ball on the downrigger. The only way I'd get that little action showing on the rod tip is if the fish grabs the lure and swims along with the flasher. I'll have to give it a go with Flashlites next time out to see if that makes a difference.
