Since the fishing had been so poor at fish lake lately I decided to try Deep Lake for the first time. I read over all the old reports and figured I had a pretty good game plan going in. Within 10 minutes of being there I had caught a nice little LMB under the dock, and that's all I caught for the next 6 hours.

I arrived at the lake a little before noon, and after trying the dock for about 45 minutes I walked around to the right to a point that looked like it had a couple forked sticks on it. I fished there using everything I could think of and didn't get a single bite. Around 4 pm I moved over to the other side of the lake and tried everything again with little success. A little after 6 I finally started getting a few bites on the bottom and hooked into a small perch.

No trout on this outing. One guy I talked to said it can be pretty good in the morning. If anyone has any tips on where and how to fish this lake it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Yooper-

From my experience fishing from the dock can be painfully slow unless your there shortly after it has been stocked. I have been on this lake many times but find it to be a challenge even from the canoe. I believe there is a stream flowing into it on the east side and then there is the fact that it is deep. I just don't think the dock area were the fish want to hang out. Just my two cents.. The last trout I caught there was on a flat fish I was casting from shore but in a location I had to paddle too. We saw some bass around logs and the wind was too much to we got out and tried to target them that way... the trout was a surprise. I think that was mid Sept. I doubt that helps much but good luck....... :)
