Hit the lake just at day break. Water was smooth and foggy but looking to be a great day. Went out from the launch to the middle and headed left up too the islands. Started trolling about 20-25ft had about 50ft of water under the boat and moved to the middle in 60-80ft deep. We were catching fish and put 5 kokes in the cooler then stopped fishing with bait so we could release ones we wanted to get bigger. The koks averaged 13-14 inch got 3 16inchers going deeper in the water around 40 ft. I took a friend with me who has fished for koks in the past with not so good luck and he desided to stick with the rivers cuz that is what he knew how to fish. I made him blow the dust off his kok trolling rod and hit the water. This was my first time fishing the lake so it made me nervuas taking him out. The great thing the fish were working if our favor. We caught many koks and a few nice 12-14" cuts. We used hand tied pink lurers/spinners. Even tryed a kok killer fly think, a small plug, and a red tripple teaser. They seemed to like almost every thing we put in the water. We finished around 1230-1 oclock and after taking a boat ride around the lake headed back to the dock. We motored slow by a young boy and his grandpa long lining sounding like they were having slow luck so I gave them a home made lure and some corn to make the trip better. Oh my friend I took had such a great time hes been asking almost every day when we can go out again. Thanks to all others who have posted info and shared your tips.

That is great to see that the Kokes (and the cutts actually) have got bigger. When I was fishing Cav. heavily in like April/May the larger kokes were just a few at 12". I will have to get back there soon. Your smoker looked good.

i think i talked to u idstud that morning at the boat launch i was with my wife . we were done in an hour with our limits 11.5 to 14 in kokes

Yes that was me. I figured the last 3 trips I got out have been fruitless for silvers I would have to go back to lake fishing. A much better day catching some fish than hunting since it was opening day in the area. Seen alot of guys in camo with no safety orange which is required in this state. Oh and the smoker smelled good too. I took some to work and had voltures I meen co workers sniffing my cooler. There were a bunch of small guys and from pics from past reports the cuts where looking better. Sorry I didnt get any pics of the cuts or fish fresh. I didnt have a regular camera and my phone died looking for signal. There was no can you hear me now.

Good to hear you did so well at Cavanaugh. I just returned from 8 days of camping in Grayland, WA (just south of Westport) and weather permitting (or should I say wind permitting) my buddy Dan and I will be out there on Cavanaugh this Saturday morning. Your report is inspiring so hopefully these fish will cooperate for us. Thanks for the report.

Thanks for such a good report/info on what/how you were fishing! I have been trying on Lake Stevens and Roesiger recently and had crap for luck for kokes.... I keep threatening to make the drive up to Cav and after your report, I might have to actually do it! Oh, also, how were you baiting your corn? i have tried a variety of things including double-hooks on koke-killer ring(with a maggot and also w/ white corn), trolling a dodger w/ threaded worm, etc and been hitting various depths. Anyhow, nice to see you killing it up there!

Most of my lures are tied with double hooks. I use small pink, red, green, and orange gamis. I havent tried worm or maggot yet. White shoepeg corn by green giant seems to work the best for me. I take the end of the kernal that has no hole in it and thread it on the hook. I feel in doing that it allows the water to flow over it better and last longer. I put 2 kernals on each hook. I also tie my rigs with 6 lbs test line and my friend I was was with was using 4 lbs. I feel the store bought stuff has too big of line, But they do work. I also run my line back 30-50ft.
