Sorry there are no Pics. Cindy and I had the day off, so up to RW we went. We launched at the corps launch (Chief Joseph) and headed up to the lowermost pens. The surface water temp was 60* at the launch area and varied up to 62* at different locations. That is 6-8* less than what we registered 2 weeks ago. We had intentions to motor up to the pens, check out the water (and bite) then fish back down. We arived at the pens and saw two other boats in the area. Both were stationary below the pens and appeared to be bait fishing. We went above the pens as usual and started casting toward the shoreline from about a good casting distance from the shore. We used our usual assortment of spinners, jigs, and spoons. To make a long story short, we only got two hits in the lower pens area, and didn't hook into either one. We didn't see the other boats having any excitment either. We broke out the sandwiches and headed back down stream, and started fishing for perch right above the pump #3 on the tribal side. We would find the edge of the "Visible" weedline and work a jig through the weeds. We were using 1/16 and 1/8 oz jig heads with crappie type baits tipped with a crappie nibble (white). It was slow going, so after we caught some perch we switched over to putting a perch eye on the jighead. We found the perch in 12-20 feet of water and the perch eyes were the motivater. We ended up keeping 26 perch that most ranged in the 7-8 inch range, but Cindy did catch a few nice ones with the biggest measuring a whopping 12". As we were drifting down past the pump #3, and we were getting ready to head out for the evening, I made a cast out over the weed beds with the perch eye to try for one last bite. Cindy was securing the boat for the ride home when I felt a tap and set the hook on what I thought to be another perch. After running through the weeds and under and around the boat a couple of times, a 24" triploid came to net. I had left the digital scale on the counter a home, so a measure would have to do. It was nice and plump, and really stretched the 4# pound line.
It was encouraging to pick up a trout in the lower end of the lake for a change, so we look forward to the bite getting better. I had left the camera at home also, so maybe my memory will be more active next trip out, and we'll be able to provide some pictorial proof of our success. LOL. It was great to be on the water again, and this weather has been outstanding. Tight lines, and sharp hooks to all.
