Hit the Columbia River at Lake Umatilla for walleye for a few days. Trolled worm harnesses with BIG nightcrawlers attached. Caught numbers of good eating size. Nothing too big, which is unusual, with everything between 16 and 25 inches. Color of worm harness does not seem to be a concern. I used ones I make with Gamakatsu hooks.

Fish are deeper than in the spring, between 25-50'. Marked every hookup on the gps and found we could often take more than one 'eye from the same spot. Fished from Irrigon downstream to past the hatchery, but not quite to the grain silo. Incidental catch of perch, one carp, and two catfish of 6 and 10 pounds. We could have targeted perch with success, but we were after 'eyes.

Had the new Humminbird 1197 10.4" gps/fishfinder/sidefinder onboard for the first time. The gps worked VERY well, but the fishfinder/sidefinder didn't work. The marina says the transducer is bad, so I get to do the return to the manufacturer thing. Poop!

All in all a very good trip. When I got home I had BMGW's Don's Dandy Crappie Jigs in my mailbox, so you can guess what species my next trip will be for. Heard that Silver Lake in Cowlitz County is hot right now, but I haven't made up my mind yet. BMGW seems to do very well in Leland, so maybe I'll take the ferry across to the peninsula, as I'm in the Everett area.
