BRRRRRRRRRRRRR it was chilly out today. Cindy and I thought we would hit the Rufus before the temps plummented to the single digits, so after watching the morning pass with a cup of joe, we got on the water around 11-1130. Water temp at the launch was 54*, and we headed up to the pens. Water was smooth all the way up to the Cabin By the River, then it started to get choppy. By the time we got to the pens the wind was blowing up the river. Air temp stayed in the mid 30s but the wind chill soaked in after a while. The water temp at the pens was 57* with light current. We started above the pens and worked the shore line down to the pens, then went down and along side the pens, and fished below them. We did this several times and picked up quite a few small 2-3# fish. Most were tagged but we did catch a few natives in the 3# range. All fish were caught on darker jigs and were released at boatside. The lighter colored jigs just didn't produce today. We released all fish today, but then I didn't have to clean any either.. Saw lots of waterfowl, so maybe the weekend hunters will have a Blast. When taking out around dusk, we ran into arkie240 at the launch. He and a fellow fisher had limited working the can line. He said around 3#s. Sounded like they fished late in the day. There were no other boats on the water today, All the hits were deep (10-15 feet down), and were very light. We had to work the jigs really slow to get any interest today. There are fish to be caught, so when the weather settles a bit, it should be smokin. Stay warm and safe out on the water..
