Was a great day today overall. Decided since kid and I both had the time off we would hit Rufus. Left in a decent snow fall and got to our spot behind the dam and got the fire going and then coffee for dad and coco for the kid and started with my fishing bobber and shrimp and her powerbait. I lost one within a few minutes and thought hey good start and then I proceeded to lose 2 more before my rod got quiet. Then kid decided to hook into one that was about 2 pounds or so and dad went to down to retrieve and promptly lost her fish for her because dumb dad forgot he actually brought the net. Next I went through a few small fish deciding to be feed by my shrimp ( I know they were small because they kept following my shrimp as I reeled in) the quiet again for me. I look over to daughters rod and see the line was in some grass along shore and was caught in milfoil in the water so I picked up her rod to reel it in some while she grabbed a piece of fire wood when I realized a little fish had made his presence known and that it was hooked so call the kid she bolted over to me I handed her the rod and she set the hook and we thought it was another small maybe pounder when it came up saw daylight and we realized it was much bigger so she kept perfect pressure on while dad ran to grab the net( dad was slow today ) and I clamered down to the shoreline net extended when mr. fish decided it was going to try to run under the tribe/corps mooring dock. Kid wise to this turned its head and aroundthe cornerwith fat ole dad in hot pursuit kid fought it well got it to shore for dad to land. Up to the bank it was success. Fish checker came by and weighed it at 6.9 pounds. I am a happy dad today.
