Was a breezing start to the morning but wind calmed down. It was rather warm with temps in mid 30s. Had good water movement from 7am to about 10am. Was a nice little benefit the current and wind fought against each other with the float. The floats stayed semi stationary and moved in kind of a circle. No real detactable bites in part do to the action of the wind on the float. I did catch one that was near 3 pounds that wasn't messing around and slammed my shrimp hard. A gentleman had his kids with him across the moorage from us and they had one on for a few seconds before getting off. They had that bite then I had mine and after landing my fish the water almost stopped flowing and wind died down and with it the bite disappeared. Was a fun day and at least caught one.

Hey MalottGuy, I don't know which looks better, The fish or the fire ring. Thanks for the report, and glad to hear the weather cooperated to make for a better day on the water. Do you have a secret soak for those shrimp, and what size hook did you go to. Fish for the skillet, makes for a successful trip. Thanks for sharing the story and the pics. Stay well and safe

Robert, at least the can line looks to be where it belongs. Thanks for the pics & report.

Lew you remember us talking about hook size the day we fished? I tried going back down to a size 4 hook, but the way I rig the shrimp it just looked a little funny so stuck with a size 1 as it looks like a little feeler sticking out and curled up in front of the shrimps nose. I am using eagle claw lazer sharps, but think I am going to try using size 1 Gamakatsu circle hook. That will give I believe a little more real look using the red hook plus the thinner wire of Gamakatsu will make it easier to rig through the shrimp. I also started using matching colored Magic Thread to hold the shrimp tail more vertical like it was swimming. Monday I may experiment with using split shot just above the shrimp to see if it will help hold it in a swimming like pattern. Using fluorocarbon line will help it also "seem" more natural, but is not as critical as the position of the shrimp in the water. The fish are use to seeing things floating in the water and as long as you are not using bright line you shouldn't worry as much. I myself have been using Stren in moss green. I am using Guides Choice Coon Stripe Shrimp in the red color from D&G Baits. I have also when I cannot afford ($7 a jar) or want a different size of shrimp, I save my old jars with brine and buy precooked whole shrimp from the seafood dept of local grocery store and soak them for 4 days to a week. Andy it is funny when we got there the can line was actually abnormally further down stream just the opposite, which was weird.
