All, to avoid any further confusion and pacify the anal retentive, shall we refer to the "silvers" in this lake as Coho? "Silvers" is a generic term used to describe any species of land locked salmon, planted in lakes for sportfisher folks to catch and enjoy.

1/20/2011 5:05:00 AMI have no problem referring to landlocked salmon as "silvers", the old-timers used to call Kokanee silver trout. My issue is calling land-locked silvers kokanee, that is just plain wrong identification.Any one who questions this should check out I.G.F.A. info on largest landlocked kokanee record caught last year, obviously if the international game fish association calls these fish "kokanee" and does NOTcall landlocked silvers Kokanee that is proper fish species I.D. As far as "anal retentive" I would say that someone who is misidentifiying fish consistantly on a public forum in spite of proper info being supplied, well , I consider that pretty "anal", or just plain stubborn .If someone is looking to catch Kokanee telling them they are present in Riffe Lake does't really help him much. Just ask any state biologist if you still don't wish to accept info from people who have posted accurate and useful info in the past.

To a person that may not be familiar with Riffe Lake or not fully versed in the nuances between landlocked salmon species, the answer to slamonfisher270's question is not obvious. I feel the majority of reports regarding landlocked salmon, properly identify the species caught. In reports where there is an error in identification, the site members are pretty good a getting it corrected. However, in some instances, especially with reports from Riffe, the responses aren't very tactful and may drive away folks or keep them from asking questions and getting more involved with this site. Until gnuesse responds, one can only speculate that the fish caught was a landlocked coho. Bearing in mind that a couple of walleye have been caught out of Lake Washington, who's to say for sure that kokanee don't exist in Riffe?
