Went to ballinger this morning around 11am, fished til 3. Used worms, and power bait with a weight about 2ft above. Had no luck...not even a bite. Maybe too early still? Not sure, first time fishing the lake...any pointers?

Were you boating or banking? I have caught fish in the evening on the N. end of the lake, out from the golf course, out from the lilly pad fields. However that was in the Spring. Honestly though... Ballinger is prob. my least favorite urban lake in that area. As it warms up, go check out Bitter and Haller lake for lmb.

I was boating. Not too familiar with many lakes around here and im itching to catch some fish. I know its early but i figured id give it a shot. I love LMB fishing, thats really all im setup to do but water is too cold right now. Ive been to Roesiger and a couple other small lakes but have only found small largemouths so far. Some decent smallies on lake joy though. Any iformation is much appreciated, thank you.

I was down at the dock at the park talking to one of the regulars. Me and my fishing pole are having a love hate relationship right now. I'd love to take it fishing with me but it hates the idea of going out in the cold :D Anyways the individual said that the fish are hitting/worms but not taking the hook into their mouths.... so it's slow.

I believe you went where I told you to go, behind the Island. However, I also told you that between Ballinger and Blackmans, go to Blackmans... Balinger is normally slow at winter, with early morning and late afternoon being the best time... and even so, sometimes is a 1 fish for every 3 trips... Blackmans on the other hand, if you know where and how, you seldom get skunk.

i'd figure the trout fishing is better in the cold, but there's so much area, trolling a wedding ring or casting a spinner/spoon might do you better plus it's more entertaining at least until you find out where they are holding.

I really wonder about the little creek that runs into the ballinger golf course and whether it draws fish to mouth there. you got another seat on that boat? :)

Pika206... it does, but I never tried it on winter. On the fall, you use a worm falling slowly with no sinker and you get a bite in less than 5-10 minutes... otherwise recast on a slightly different place until you locate the fish.

haller lake is at 128th n.e. and meridian pretty much you don't have atrue boat launch ,but if your boat is light enough or if you and a pal are strong enough you can walk the boat the 30' or so at that dead end . I have fished there a few times and seen a decent lmb or 2 in the late summer taken and released.tight lines hope that helps:)

ballinger is supposedly a well kept secret for monster largemouths, and i believe it. i want to prove that right this year. been talking to a lot of the locals who have lived here over 30 years that have seen 8 + lbers come out of here. wherever i fish, i caught dink largemouths as small as 4 - 6 inches. the smallest largemouth i caught out of ballinger last fall out of the 3 times i went was pushing 10 inches. so the dinks are bigger than the dinks i catch everywhere else. there is a TON of food for the bass and a LOT of structure along the shore. i'm confident i'm going to beat my last years personal best of 3 1/2 lbs at ballinger!
