2/9/2011 9:40:00 PMNice batch of fish! 9" perch and incredible scenery. I must admit I'm a tad jealous just from looking at your pictures! I just used that Louisiana seasoned fish try last night on a batch I got on my local lake! Along with steak fries, it's hard to keep them coming out of the fryer and into my boys' bottomless pits. Absolutely delicious!

2/9/2011 10:26:00 PMUh, that's spooky, we had homemade steak size fries with ours too. Cut steak fries out of older red potatoes before they go bad(use em or lose em), short steak fries! LOL What did you have for dinner tonight, I'm looking forward to eating some of that tomorrow.. LOL I was just told we're eating shrimp tomorrow in that Louisiana seasoned fish fry.....

2/10/2011 9:34:00 PMSome one asked for some details on what I was using, just tossin what I wrote back on here in case it'll help others.:
I just use bare hooks with about an inch long piece of worm on each hook for ice fishing, perch=just worm, trout=worm and tip with one red egg-pautskes balls o fire green label. Most ice fishers use different jigs or lures, seems their fav is swedish pimple, I've seen a lot of orangish type of lures jigs lately, smaller the better. I used to like micro size jigs..... Now, 6' long leader with 3 single hooks tied in about 2 foot apart on leader, some use as light as 4 pound, I use 6 since I've lost a few really nice fish on the 4. This leader is prone to tangles so I always carry spares as it takes me a long time to tie them up. Essentially, find something that works for you and keep reading and trying something that catches fish. I wrote a lot of info in the post and other posts, cull through the reports and pick up more info. Hope all/some of this helps. Sat, I'll be installing a furnace, Thanks for the invite though. Forgot to mention, I drop line it, I put the sinker/single split shot on the bottom of the leader so it finds the bottom for me, no need to crank up one turn, I know my lowest hook is 3"-4" off of the bottom... my fish came right off of the bottom, NOT one crank up! The middle, 2' off the bottom, hook was not producing well.

2/10/2011 10:30:00 PMAnother question popped in, here's response: I bend the hook,shank, close to the eye of the hook so it, the hook, takes the shape of a jig hook just without the lead of a jig. I tie the hook in to the leader thru the eye and around the shank of the hook, the section I bent upwards. This forces the hook to stick out perpendicular to the leader instead of just hang there. The tip of the hook points at the line, not up. The 4X fly tying hook is a very long shank so still plenty left after bending about 1/8". i I ground an edge, rounded, of needle nose so i break fewer hooks in making the bend. Huge diff for me on the lite biters..... hope that helps!

2/10/2011 11:12:00 PMeach of the hooks are tied into the leader about 2' apart from each other, I forgot the name of the knot, but it's tied around the shank of the hook, it's tedious to tie up these 6' leaders. The top hook requires about 5' of line to be passed thru the knot 6-7 times.... LOL it's a bugger! it's a drop line so I I put the single split shot about 4" below the bottom hook. Let the line down till it stops, take in the slack,,,, Oh, nothing fishes like a real worm! think small hook,,, # 10 or 8. I jerk when they tap, the tap is all I'm getting on perch, trout will hook themsleves sometimes. Every one has something that works for them, swedish pimples and others. I've ice fished 6 days this year, maybe 3-6 more before the season is over. Tight lines!

2/11/2011 11:26:00 AMNice info- that's similar to the rig I was fishing Lake Michgan for perch in winter. I used circle hooks and sinker weights on the bottom; Couldn'd decide whether tying direct or using Bear Paws was better. Bear Paws let you adjust easiser, but tend to move in the line with big fish/reeling.
