Good job on Rock. When I was going to WSU Rock Lake was one of my favorites. If you decide to head up lake though be careful. On the east side of the lake about halfway to the upper end there is a very shallow area that extends at least 100 yards out into the lake. By shallow I mean 1-2 feet deep. I lost a propeller there once and had to electric motor back to the launch. Got there at midnight and had to wait for a car to go by before I could see where I was and get ashore. If you do find that shelf, it's loaded with smallmouth chasing crawdads. Lots of bouilders just below the surface, perfect smallmouth territory.

LOL - I agree about the shelf, but no Smallmouth Bass. Rock only holds Largemouth Bass, but, at the right times, YES, that spot has Bass and Crayfish (think June or July). Funny thing about that spot, it is 135 feet deep and then 10 feet closer to shore it is 4 feet this time of year. YOU GET NO WARNING FROM THE DEPTH FINDER. There are more spots on Rock then this one - just ask the guys I towed off the lake last fall when they tore the bottom end off their motor when trying to get to a duck hunting spot.

Note: The water temperature is 37.7 to 38.7 degrees, unchanged from December. The inlet is running high and muddy. The upper end water clarity is less then the outlet end, but both are green-milky. The water levels are stable enough that algae is growing on the rocks near the surface. The water height is within 6" of the recent historic levels, but will probably stop at this level (as much flowing out as flowing in).

AA, how was your fishing when you were there? I was thinking about making a trip there this week sometime, but maybe i shuld wait for the water temps warm up some, what do you think? I know in march last year i did very well on all 3 of my outing there. Well as well as a 12' aluminum with a trolling motor can do. I am itchin for some fisin.

I fished there yesterday and could not beliveve it I caught a Shark, not sure if it was a man eater or not but holy cow a shark in rock lake. I fished the north end of the lake and used chicken as bait. Thats right a whole chicken with a stick of butter on a trailer hook was the ticket for the day. Trolling was done @ 40 to 50 mph so the bite was very fast, the chain I attached to my rod holders came in handy and is highly reccomended when trolling at such low speeds. Another addition to the boat that was great is the deep freeze on the bow, I can now fillet my shark,vaccum pack it and then with ease just throw it into the freezer, a good quality 200ft extension cord for the freezer is all that needed besides ur regular gear.

Sorry about the bogus comment, just trying to throw a bit of humor out there during the crappy weather. Now that the temps are up my work will increase and the fishing trips will decrease, so thanks to everyone who reports here and hopefuly the area lakes keep producing as always. Eastern Washington is a great managed fishery for the most part.
