Inspired by the reports of good ice and a perch run, I made my way back up to Eloika. Arrived at 6:30 and stayed till noon. The perch had gone back to sleep. Nobody seemed to be catching many perch of any size. I drilled lots of holes on both sides of the lake across from and north of Jerry's Landing. Caught nothing but a dink perch and a sunfish early on, so I moved around. I did have the satisfaction of pulling up a 10 inch crappie and a 14 inch largemouth, both in water about 12 feet in depth. They both went after a black diamond head jig with 2 maggots. Made the trip worthwhile, but not outstanding. Weather was great. The lake had about 4 inches of soft ice sitting on about 4 inches of clear hard ice. Fishfinder was not much help, due to lots of interference, maybe associated with the ice melt. Time to break out the boat.
