Fished along west shore, north of weather station. Boated 2 cutts and released 2 fat koks. One retrieved by a very quick eagle did not make it. I have to say that the lake right now holds probably more kokanees than cuttroat trout, and big ones. Fished shallow in top 20'. Kokes were even higher in top 8' on the downrigger. I am planning to go to Chelan Saturday first time to troll for macks. Any tips are welcome. Where to launch? Where to start? Tight Lines

Dan, so I know realize you fish Samammish regularly. Do you think it has slowed down since like Dec? I have been out recently, and I think from my experience, and the reports I read that it has slowed down a bit. It is more of a 2 fish day,, rather than the off the hook days of early in the winter??
Have fun at Chelan! I did that trip last winter. Just read Joe Hielen's (sp?) reports... Darrel and Dad's etc. they are good about giving up the tackle and location. PM sent.

danm, give Joe Heinlen of Lake Chelan Adventures a call. And or check out he & Blufin Louis reports on Chelan. Joe is a sponsor of this site and is not afraid to share information.

Dan, I would also have to say Darrel an Dad's. They came and spoke at a local fishing club in everett. What they use in there reports is what they use. Get there number off there reports and call they will give you advice on were to go and what to use. Even when your on the lake. Focuse on the south to mid end. Have fun. Plan on fishing deep 200ft range.

Just make sure you have heavy balls. We went two weeks ago and had problems keep touch with the bottom at 200'.

Why on earth would you bend your DR rod over that much? That just seems excessive, lol.

The Quadfather: Thanks for your tip on L Chelan. I just want to try something new. You read those 5 star reports coming from chelan, every day, on this web site. It drives me crazy. Believe me, today I fished sammamish for macks. Iknow, I know.. crazy. I draged my gear on the bottom for one or 2 hours tring to hook one of those arches that I saw on my finder. or maybe a squah fish. But nothing. It slowed down on Sammamish compared to fall or month of january. Kokanees are huge and fat. I hope they open season..

@Matt. Believe me. That is a ultra light kokanee rod, slow action. It looks tensioned? It is not. You can put it in you paket. You will not notice. I use salmon high tension releases also that increases my fish catching, solid hook ups. Learned it from G Man. Very rarely I lose fish this way.

Thanks everybody for tips on Chelan.

Good luck on the Mac's. Good food, but kinda like reeling in an old bbot as far as a fight is concerned. You should run those ultra light rods off of the DR for the Mac's. Might make it more interesting.

ive been doing good everytime been out latly the fish are in a way kinda bunched up once you find em stay on em you will continue to get bites.and personally if fishing shallow lead core line works way better than down riggers ,got to roll stealth for the cutts it makes a difference plus on lead line your line is a few 100' behind the boat.the fish are shallow could probly get em just flat linin a plug

It has slowed down due to the ammount of fish being caught. IMO
