It's been my finding that the water warms up a few degrees regardless of ambient temps and definitley seems to have an impact on the lakes I fish... In March my usual launch time to go bass fishing is 9am and I will fish until 3-5pm, that's it. It has worked quite well! Like I said, just curious... Thanks for the report, I was thinking on trying for smallies tomorrow.

American is a very busy lake, especially just a few weeks before the closed waters open. Lots of people getting their boats out for the first time of the year and lots of cabin fever oppressed bassers itching for a good tug on the line- this lake sees a lot of anglers in March and April. That is why I try to hit it early early early this time of year. Once the rest of the lakes open, American will see less pressure overall although the first weekend will be obnoxiously busy anyway (a lot of folks do not realize that the lake is actually open year round).
