Fished from 9:45a to 1pm. Caught two trout in the first 15 minutes. Thought it was going to be a stellar day and that I'd have time to throw for bass too. Slowed for a bit after that. One hit for the next thirty minutes and then hooked up with another half way up the lake. Got to the far end and picked up two more. They were smaller, so let them go and made a round again. Picked up another in the same spot that was similar size, so tossed it back looking for bigger since I still had a couple hours to fish. Trolled back toward the park and picked up another larger fish, but threw the hook. Shortly after that I picked up another good sized one. The wind had come up some and as I was trying to thread the fish on the stringer I was getting blown into a dock, so stopped to adjust the motor to take me away from shore and that is when I heard the splash. Looked up to see my stringer of fish sinking behind the boat. Tried to get back to them, but was too late. About then my second pole snagged on something and wouldn't let go, so lost a lure too. Spent a half hour dragging a jig head through the area trying to pick up my stringer, but no luck...and nearly lost the jig head to boot. Two dogs kept barking at me from shore while I searched and wouldn't give up. The owner came out after a while and asked me if I liked causing trouble (not sure what he meant by that). I kept my cool and told him I lost my stringer and was trying to retrieve it. That seemed to placate him and he took the dogs inside. Finally gave up and went back to trolling and the rain started. Trolled for another hour and didn't have so much as a hit. Still had the one trout that I was trying to string when I lost the rest, so went home with one. Stellar day. Seems like the bite went off when the rain hit....or my luck went to the bottom with my fish. lol. Sun was shining when I left. Didn't see any fish caught by the few other boats around, so not sure how everyone else was doing. Water temp was 45.
Lessons learned....1) Doing too many things at once is asking for trouble. 2) make sure stringer is secured to boat at all times. Other than the fish/lure lost, it was mostly a good day.
