Released my wife for her afternoon appointment and went down to Greenlake right afterwards. I didn't see nearly as many fisherman today as I did last week, maybe they were all on the dock I was at :D
Like all other trips to Greenlake this year I have 1 hour to catch something other than a jogger or rowboat. First fish does a hit and run within 10 minutes of my arrival. Older man asks me to cast his rod after I relaunch. I'm guessing he's asking because I'm tossing the line as far as I can - which means nothing until you have scene the casts I was doing. Just as I'm rolling back to release his line I get hit again. Planter minus the word peanuts, a wee bit over 8" but a ton of spunk to it. C/R.
I reload and launch. 10 minutes pass my line tightens up and another fish is on. I loosen the drag thinking it's yet another plant and then put just a wee bit of pressure on the line. Fish takes off like a bat out of heck. "OK tighten the drag dummy..... you over undid it!" I'm thinking. The closer the fish got to the dock the harder it fought. One of the Russians with a net tries to net the fish but the fish wants nothing to do with this. The net is really small and the fish isn't ready. I play it out, the drag is still a little loose so the fight is exaggerated, the way I like it at this point. I want to do as little damage to the fish as possible so I don't rush anything. Finally the fish decides to cooperate and enter the net. I do a quick measurement using 2 discarded Starbucks venti cups put side to side and take a picture with my cell phone. You don't see the cups in the picture but the fish is almost the length of the two cups... and fat.
I will fish for about another half hour. I will land 2 more plants and lose 2 as well. Great day with no rain. This was my best day so far this year by far and my biggest trout since I caught the 2 Ballinger-beasts about 2 years ago.
