Curlew Lake is finally thawed out so we went to try for some rainbows for the smoker for dinner and possibly some bass to fry up. Got on the water at @ 0645 hrs and started for the rainbows right away near the railroad bridge. It was dead until 1000 hrs when we finally put a couple of 15 inchers in the boat with a green wedding ring and rainbow powerbait. We also caught a smaller one with pink/blue wedding ring and power eggs. The bite didnt start up until the sun starting to shine. Turned out to be a beautiful day. We managed one more small bow using a crank bait while plugging for bass. We did not see or catch a single bass, it is obviously too early for this lake because usually you cant keep the LMBs off the hook. The wildlife was outstanding, we saw 6 different species of ducks, geese, loons, deer, beaver, cranes, golden eagles, and bald eagles. We managed to see 3 massive Tiger Muskies in the 4' range hanging out under the bridge but they wouldnt budge and wouldnt hit anything. Looks like they are on or near their beds right now. Fished for 6 hours, caught enough for dinner, decent day!
