Did the daybreak thing at American today and had a pretty good time on the water despite not catching any bass again. The bass skunk is strong on American for me this spring. Caught a limit of those feisty rainbows all on crawfish colored crankbaits.

Had a couple of nibbles on a drop shot in about 60 feet but no bites around the docks. After seeing Arniejl's posts this week, I was hopeful but I guess the moon is not right. Also, it was calm and clear this morning and I find that a little wind helps the catching at American.

Lots of folks trolling for those trout and it seems that the kokanee have scattered too and are appearing in waters as shallow as 30 feet and are anywhere in the water column. Found one school of perch in about 50 feet but they were not biting today.

Water temps ranged from 49 at daybreak to up to 54 at noon. Its gotta get better soon!

Yeah, I shied away yesterday. Too nice a weather=too many boats. But, I did fish pretty hard for the couple of fish I did catch there. I am also maybe a little less conventional while fishing American because, quite honestly, I do not know how to fish it. So, I just skipped a green pumpkin tube under docks all day, and because almost every dock on that lake is floating, that made it pretty hard. I would hit the long gang planks and skip my tube right up in there where they meet with the floating part. I would also skip it in under the same gang planks at every pile.

It was not very effective but did get me a few hook ups. Still pretty early yet, but with my track record at American, those were my best days ever out there:/

It gets much better there as the water warms. Also, the early morning bite is usually the best time to fish for several reasons- less boat traffic, less wind, less light penetration. Mid day can be good there even with all the boat traffic. I think that the boat traffic drives the fish to cover making them easier to pinpoint. Also the wave action disrupts the surface so that the light penetration is reduced too. If you know where to fish, and in the spring its all about the docks, you can find them in the mid day. Of course, there is deep water cover too but it is hard to locate and even harder to stay on with all the boats in open water.
