With such a good morning shaping up I decided to go out for a shot at the Lake Chelan Kokanee. After dropping Cindy off at work, I had to go it solo today, I rigged up the boat and headed down to the public launch around 0730-0800. The parking lot was already full and riggs were in the upper lot. Out from the best western in about 25 feet of water, I dropped the down rigger attached to Mack's Flash-Lites and a red wedding ring with shoe peg corn and a white crappie nibble to 15 feet.. As I was rigging up the other rod (two pole endorsement), the first rod was twitching. Popped the clip and reeled in a monster 9" Kokanee. LOL I was raised to be grateful for what is offered, so into the livewell it went. I finally got two rods out, and there were times of doubles, but the lil buggers didn't stay on the hook real well today for me. I can't complaint though as I had over 30 hits, lost several at boatside, and kept a limit to fillet for the grill. They ran 9 & 10" this trip. Small but constant action. I remained in the lower end of the Lakeside area fishing 25-45 feet of water. It didn't seem to matter the depth of water, but most bites were 15-20 feet deep. I was running the wedding ring behind the boat 50-75 feet, and trolling 1.2 - 1.7 MPH, with 1.4 MPH being the most productive. It took about an hour to an hour and a half to get a limit in the boat, and the morning was outstanding, so a five was warrented. One thing I didn't notice was the water temp. Must have been "Just Right" though. LOL With the extremely low water level, the launch and take out can be a trial when there are lots of boaters, SO be patient and respectful of others who may not be as effecient as some, and enjoy a great time chasing the LAKE CHELAN KOKANEE.
