Arrived at the lake around 11:00 a.m. and spent some time herding a couple of snakes off the launch so a couple with a child could relax and do some shoreline casting. They thought they were Rattlers, but they only hamless Bull Snakes.
I got on the water at noon and headed to the north end of the lake. While going up there I marked very few fish on the fish finder. Those that I did see were lying at about 15 feet. and a very few were on the bottom. Some fish were rising along the shore, mainly on the opposite side of the lake from the launch.
The long cold spring has finally made a turn towards summer. The air temperature was about 72º, sunny, with a light S.W. 5-10 mph breeze. The surface temperature of the water was between 57-59º. The water level of the lake is quite high, with the boulders on the launch submerged.
The insect activity was light, with a few midges on the surface. I did however see one airborne damselfly.
I got several good strong takes through the afternoon, but lost about 5 of them on the retreive. I was able to land a nice 17' Rainbow. I was using a couple of my new patterns that I tied up, one being The Yellow Jacket and the other a hellgremite pattern that I am trying to perfect. The hellgremite got several good heavy hits, but the hook I had used when I tied it had a too narrow of a gap. I think it will be a great pattern, I just have to fine tune the pattern.
Most of the other people on the lake were having a relatively slow day also. A couple of guys had it keyed in, but it was a rather quite day. Once the water temperature rises into the mid to upper 60's, the action should start to improve.
Quit fishing about 4:00 p.m. and headed back into town.

Thanks, old timer! I've been waiting months for a report on Amber!!! Sounds as though the weather has finally made the turn.

Well, kinda, Raff. We have a week of rain ahead of us now. Time to fertilize the lawn. LOL
