Fished Clear Lake again in the usual places with my son and as always did well catching small kokanee and trout ranging from around 12 to 19 inches. Had bites on every pass and lost allot of bait. But will say fishing will pick up as the weather changes and we charge into October and the close of lakes. Wanted to make a comment on a report from an angler who said something to the effect that the lake has dropped off and is no longer a good fishing lake. Well to the person who fishes the lake " once or twice a year", yes the lake sucks. To the person who expects the lunker trout to jump up and hook themselves, yes the lake sucks. For a person who fishes during the hottest parts of the day during one of the hottest summers, yes you will go home empty handed.. I enjoy reading reports on how bad lakes are from people who don't catch anything and then complain about it. Its not about catching fish all the time. Do your home work and it will pay off. Here are my suggestions. I use a flasher lure or baited line hook up. Trolling is all I do. I go and find the fish. I prefer to use a flasher called the sling blade and a combo of either a fly, like the KOKONUT (pink, green or white) with either a worm or maggot tipped on the hooks. Flasher colors vary from a green pattern, to red or silver. I prefer the pink and white sling blade. You want about 18 inches of leader and to get down to the deeper water a little bit of weight. Because I use a 5 ft ugly stick for better feel, the weight on your rod may vary. You want it down around 18 to 30 feet. A good fish finder will find them. To me this is the biggest part of catching fish and that's trolling speed. Not just one speed but a varied speed. Speed up , slow down, almost to the point where the flasher hits the bottom. When it gets to its deepest dive, speed the troll back up and it will kick up the bottom and that's where you will get a majority of your hits. The larger fish seem to like it most. Trolling speed will vary. Try different speeds and adjust to the fish. Sounds hard
Hope that helps.
Thanks Mike for a great place to teach and learn a few things.
As always
