Hit Newman on Suinday to go mess around with the crappie and smallmouth bass.
Water temp 59 light wind and overcast skies, with a rainstorm that pushed through right before I arived at 1200.
The crappie were tight to the stalks of the lilly pads, you had to fish your fly under a suspension device and get the fly vertically to the lilly pad stalks or you wouldn't catch a crappie.. caught well over 15 crappie averaging 10-11" had to keep moving from pad to pad to find the fish. Saw plenty of boats getting skunked because they would stay in one place and not move. Got bored with the crappie and decided to find some smallies.
Found some rock piles and picked up three smallies around 1.5 to 2.5 lbs on a crawdad type pattern I tie..
Overall an enjoyable day and caught some fish too.
