Hey all,
Finally figured out how to catch them Rock Bass during daylight hours. They're holding tight to cover (submerged logs, shoreline weeds, ect...) and won't move very far to take a bait. I'm using a 1/8 oz. jig head with a smoke colored grub tipped with a bit of worm. Larger fish seem to be more prevalent during the day than at night. Yesterday was the slowest day thus far, with only 6 fish boated (or in this case... "docked"). I'm going to start experimenting with Texas and Carolina rigs to get my grubs further into cover.
My infatuation with these little fish has earned me the name "Big Game" among my comrades. That's o.k. though, they're like landing Tarpon on my little micro-lite gear :) Besides, the chironomid-inclined holdover trout population is pathetically low.
Although the Perch have been located, I, for the life of me, have not been able to get them to take anything. Guess the locals were right. Early June to late October.....period!
