Hey all,
The day started out pretty slow bank fishing for holdover rainbows. Only one fish landed in 4 hours of fishing. The lake is to be stocked sometime in May and I'm looking forward to dragging a Rainbow pattern Husky Jerk behind the dock.
Towards evening I began tying on different lures just screwing around. After tying on a crawdad pattern crankbait, I soon noticed small fish chasing it. Hoo Haa!! I finally found those @#%$@!!! Perch! They were holding about 20 ft. off shore. I'll be getting that Barbeque warmed up :)
After the perch lost their sense of humor, I attached a 4" black tube that I'd bought for the purpose hunting smallmouth (in other lakes) and dunked it in the water off the edge of the dock just to study its action. A 10 oz. Rock Bass shot out of underneath the mobile dock and promptly inhaled it.
By then it was getting dark, so my partner built a campfire on the beach. (on his property) We strung up lighted floats above a bit of nightcrawler and had a Rock Bass on just about every cast. The biggest weighed out at 13 oz. This lasted for nearly three hours. I haven't had this much fun since October when the jumbo Perch were going nuts.
Spring has officially sprung on Lake Louise. I'm absolutely giddy about exploiting those Rock Bass on my ultra-lite gear this year. They're certainly an admirable fish in my book.
