I just moved onto the lake a month ago. I am a avid Fly Fisherman, and didnt really know if there was any fly fishing anglers on this lake. For about a month i have yet to see none that i can tell.

Every decent weather evening around 8:30 i have been watching some of the biggest chironamid hatches i have seen on a lake in recent times. What first got me to notice this was the birds flying over the water in groups. Then watching the rings appear as well about 50-100 feet off my dock in about 25 feet of water. For a couple nights i would watch fish after fish rise and couldnt believe there isnt anyone out there for the evening hatch.

Last night, i finally pumped up the zodiac and just about 200 yards infront of my house sat stationary and waited for a few minutes and like clock work the hatch began, the birds came out and the fish started to rise.

After a few false cast and a determination on where the next few fish were rising it was like target fishing. I had on a sedge dry fly size 14 i usually use for the Yakima River not thinking it would work, then a rise i set the hook and there was a 14" trout, then proceeded to stay out until 9ish when the hatch stopped. Caught and Released i would say a total of 10 fish all decent size a few dinks and a couple cut throats.

Now i am starting to understand their routine and seeing a few bigger fish actually catch air out of the water i am going to be going at it a lot harder now.

It sure is nice having something like that in your backyard.

Has anyone else on here had any luck fly fishing with drys or nymphs even on this lake?

Pics posted soon...

SWEET ....... I fish that lake a few times a year my self .Here in the next month or so it will pump out some nice cutthroats! I troll a needle fish in perch color and seem to do good , and yes to live on a lake would be awsome!

Thats Odd that you use a needle fish, thats usually a salt water fly for warm water, good advice though, i will have to tie some of them up and see what i can do with them.

also last night i caught some bass on a fly rod, i was using a black leach and just retreiving in fast little strips, casting up against the lilly pads. Never thought it would work but i was getting some decent size large mouth. Guess i can start doing that before the evening hatch.
