Way to stay with it and adjust. Keep in mind that there are a bunch of kokanee in the lake and right now there is a 12" minimum size limit on them and all trout. It is hard to tell for sure if the fish you have in your photo is a kokanee, but just the shape and lack of spotting makes me believe that it is a kokanee.

You should get yourself a mini manual downrigger for your boat. They are pretty cheap, and make catching these trout much more fun since there is no weight between you and the fish after the lure releases from the rigger.

Otherwise, if you happen to get out bright and early in the morning, you can try leaving 1 line on the surface. I've had times where even though I was marking fish down 40-60 ft., all my bites came right on the surface with no weight except the sinking of my monofilament line back 100ft. I even tried putting the downrigger down 5 feet without success. They wanted it RIGHT on the surface. A few pea-shots above the swivel probably would not hurt.

@ G-Man: It wasn't Kokanee, I would have rather hooked one of those, I don't know if i could have properly identified it but i thought it was a lake trout but having just looked it up lake trout which looks to be more brown and spotted; this trout was silver bellied with green along the entire dorsal side with darker spots through out. my friend snapped the shot as i didnt have my camera with. not the best shot to ID the fish though.

@ Jungle Jim: I think I will try that. I will let you know how that goes, I never thought of getting a smaller downrigger. I noticed on the fish finder that a lot of the fish were up near the surface or on top as well as the bigger ones far down or midway to the bottom. my buddy was trolling with a jig on the surface, he didnt catch anything though. my Kastmaster was the winner.
