WOW what a morning. If I landed every fish that I hooked onto, I would have limited out in under an hr. And not with small fish either. Big ones!

I've been fishing this lake all spring with not much to show for it. Caught mostly trouts, because I couldnt get the bass to bite. And when I do get the bass to bite, they have been small ones. Biggest has been 14" so far this year.

All that changed this morning. The Fish Gods heard my prayers. I was hooking fish after fish. Lost several big ones. Lost several after the hook set. Would hook fish on! Rip drag and fish off! :( I was able to get a pattern down where I could call out my bites!

Anyways, I beat my personal SMB record. I dont have a scale, only a measuring tape. Obviously I need to invest in 1 now. :o

Old record was 17". The 1st fish I caught today was 18"! Next fish I caught was a beast! It was ripping my drag like whoa. Everytime I tried to net it, it would rip more drag. But as you can see in the pic, I destroyed my newly created record. Measured to 21"! It was a beast of a fish. I then landed another 17".

I had on a big largemouth too. Had me wrapped around a pole. I could see it swimming. I'm trying to get it out. And it changed directions which put slack in my line and it came off. :( Did land a 9" largemouth though.

Best day ever!

Hopefully some of you guys can estimate the weight.

I don't really believe that people can guess the weight of a fish any too accurately from a picture on the internet. Only a slight arm angle could change everything. In your pictures there is nothing to compare it to other than a tape measure. That fish is a beast and bigger, I think, than any SMB I have ever caught. The only reference that I would have is that my buddy caught a 19 incher a while back and it weighed 4lbs. 7oz.. So, there may be a formula for this sized fish, in fact, I would be shocked if there wasn't, but I would have to guess well over 5 pounds??? Maybe pushing 6?????

According to charts, the average for 21" is 6.21 lbs. That can really vary around spawn, but is fairly accurate in my experience. It was a darn nice fish, period.

Very nice fish! I havent been to meridian since last month, looks like i better make another trip. Great job out there. Was there still a bunch of that green slimey algae everywhere? PM me if ya ever feel like swapping techniques/info on that lake. Always good to get another opinion on one of my local lakes.

WOW, that was close to 6lbs?!?!

LOL I know i'm tempting fate, but I've been using 6lb test in cover..... Didnt have an issue with line breaking. I did retie after the beast though.

And yes, there' still a bunch of green slimey algae all over the place. It's gross.

Good eating? I wouldnt know, lol. That fish has to be pretty old for it to get that big in the PNW. I throw all fish back.

Those old fish deserve to live, and no way its 6-7 lbs, but its a hell of a fish. Congrats !! big ups u crazy
