Fished Baker Lake for Kokanee this Memorial weekend. I hadn't fished Kokanee since I was a kid with my Dad on Lake Chelan. Since I remembered them tasting so good, I want to figure out how to catch them again. Well, I guess my inexperience showed. We couldn't even get a bite. This was very frustrating as every place I went on the lake I saw fish on the sonar (we fished up lake of the resort). I have never seen a lake so full of fish everywhere you go. I am pretty sure we had the right depth. We trolled "pop" gear with Wedding Rings, Rooster Tails, Needle Fish and Dick Nites. Added white corn and worms to the hooks but still no luck. I honestly didn't see anyone catch a fish this weekend, so maybe it wasn't just us. Maybe should have tried chumming, but I do not know what that entails. However, from what I saw on the sonar, the fish population in this lake appears to be healthy. We saw quite a few "large" fish returns from the sonar as well. Note: the lake is low for this time of year and unless you launch a boat from a developed boat launch, you had better have a 4X4 if your boat is very heavy (i.e. over 2000 lbs).
