We were all going to be in Lacey in order to visit Grandma and Grandpa so the kids brought their poles along and I'd thought we'd try out Long's Pond, the juvenile lake there located off of Pacific Ave near Albertson's in lacey. I checked out the Washington state fishing guide and they stock that pond with all kinds of game fish.

I had left them rigged up for bottom fishing using a 6lb test with a 4lb leader and we used Chartreuse colored Power Nuggets for trout. It was a nice place to fish and had lots of areas from the shore to cast but we chose to use the dock since the kids have never fished from one before. The group next to us were small, small catfish but other than that I didn't notice much action on the pond.

We were there a couple of hours when my daughter finally got a bite. I was busy helping her brother with his bait and pole so she decided she'd tackle it on her own. Lo and behold, she set the hook and reeled in a nice beautiful Rainbow trout. It was about 11" and her smile was ear to ear.

Soon, thereafter, her brother had a bite but the fish got away which makes him still catchless for all of his endeavours. We're still working on technique since he lost a couple of fish due to line snapping. I might even try him out on a heavier line just so he can feel what it's like to bring one in.

My daughter managed to hook up twice more that day and landed one. The other got away because I had incorrectedly tied the hook and the line slid off. Her second catch was another beautiful 11" Rainbow.

The rain started to come in and so we headed back home and this time I decided to try and guy them another way I saw on youtube and cook em up so I can get used to preparing them. The first one I didn't let cook long enough and bones remained, but the second was almost perfect and the bones came away clean from the meat. My daughter and I took a couple of bites and savored in our catch.
