Largemouth Bass

Was gonna take the day off and then read Ocktane's report. Sitting there looking at that picture of his buddy with that largemouth made me want to go fishing, again... I know, what are ya gonna do about it!

Talked the wife into going to Spanaway. She said no, initially, and then I said that we would do some top water action and then she jumped up raring to go, lol.

Caught 6 or 7, I think. All little guys but almost all of them on poppers, so it was fun. Also caught 3 or 4 rock bass on poppers. She beat me out with the biggest (pictured) and the most. Of the fish we caught, two were small mouth but little, like 10-12". They were both caught on a green pumpkin tube.

Talked to a home owner there that said there was a guy fishing out front of his dock everyday, a while back, and he kept every bass he caught. Some days he caught multiple large fish, big ol basses and kept every one of them.

Then one day there was a bass boat out there with two bass dudes in it looking for the guy, lol. Wanted to have a little chat with him. Then, the guy showed up when that other boat was not there and the home owner told me that he went down and had a talk to the guy and told him that keeping all those big bass was wrong and he needs to quit doing it. The guy said that he was feeding homeless people with them, haha, yeah right.

Anyway, the guy has not been back, but, according to the home owner, the guy made a pretty big dent in the big fish population in the south end of the lake. But, imo, it will be fine, there are plenty of big fish to go around. It just kind of sucks that people kill these big old spawners just because it is legal (well, not multiple big ones). A picture and a scale equals killing a fish and showing it off.

I'm just ranting, tight lines everybody!!!

Hello, I'm new to this forum and after reviewing COUNTLESS posts, I couldn't help but notice that there are several people keeping LMB that fall between 12" and 16"...as well as more than one over 17". My copy of the regs clearly states that it's prohibited. Help me guys, am I missing something, or are that many people really breaking the rules and hurting the population by keeping more than 5, keeping fish in the 13"-16" range, and/or keeping more than one whopper? Enlighten me, please. Thanks and good fishing to all!

Your concern is a constant battle on this site. Most of us practice catch and release no matter how big the fish and there are a very select few who do indeed kill the fish. I know it is not appreciated by the admin to really talk about it on the reports. I think it is OK to talk about it on the forums. And, with that being said, your concern is a concern of many. If a guy keeps a bass every now and then I guess it is alright, but follow the regs and don't abuse them.

There is nothing better than a 2 - 5 pound bass filleted and pan fried in a light crispy batter. Delicious
