The hike to this Alpine lake starts out in clear cut switchbacks but once you reach the crest it's a pleasant stroll in 2nd growth. There's snow on the ground (patchy) except when you head down into the lake, where there are spots of heavy snow. The lake itself is open. I hiked up with my brother Chris and his financee Kareena. I cast Fish Creek Spinners and also nymphs and dry flies with a casting bubble. No luck. BUT we did have a half dozen VERY LARGE trout swim by, one nudged a nymph I had tied up but didn't commit. I have never seen Alpine lake trout this big, I would honestly estimate them as 14" fish. Very impressive and well worth another try on a different day. So if you get up there know there are some big fish cruising it's crystal clear waters.
